Description: '‘My artwork is all about taking an idea that is believed to be true and flipping it around to see it from a different perspective. This piece does that by challenging what it means to be beautiful. I created this character without the arbitrary social qualifications that are usually used to dictate physical perfection to create a beautiful image. My hope is that people look at this painting and see some of themselves in her.'‘
Shawna Green is a London-based self-taught visual artist, illustrator, and designer. As an artist, Shawna first began her study of portraits by experimenting with watercolours and pencils. This soon developed into many different mediums such as spray, paint, oil, Adobe Photoshop and Procreate for digital art, and now her favourite acrylic.
She uses her artistic skills to showcase how she sees the world in the subjects of her paintings. Her inspiration for the art she creates is to honour those whose voices are misunderstood and/or marginalised and to be a representation for women of colour in the art world. Her creative style allows her to express herself so that she lives her life with no regrets.
